your OS producer to spend some of the billions in profits on building a more secure core product...not integrating applications so that I can choose the browser and media player I want and remove that which I do not.

If you want to challenge that I do not know how to keep my system clean you would be better served to find another target. I have not personally had a virus on my Windows system in years. Now I work in the business of supporting many users in Windows and have cleaned these threats off their systems quite extensively.

I can only sight the test from Coverity which found .16 defects per thousand lines of code in the Linux kernel and only 6 critical defects. If Microsoft would only open its kernel to be scanned I can only speculate where the numbers would be but from the number of security patches that are put out from Microsoft we can equally speculate why these numbers are not available.
