As an MCSD, my career is firmly entrenched in Microsoft technologies. Microsoft technologies tend to follow cycles of stagnation followed by rapid advancement. .NET would never have happened if not for Java, so I'm really thankful anytime another development platform pushes the envelope. Competition is always a good thing, and the stiffer the competition the better the tools emerge as a direct result. I'm probably in the minority here, but I feel like the proliferation of Linux, Apache, Java, PHP and mySQL have done more to improve tools coming out of Redmond than just about anything else. Keep the innovation coming, it just makes my job that much easier.
