What if you are wrong? (You are).

Yes, storage management is a mess today. SANs, NAS', SCSI - how to choose and how to manage? Migration of data is VERY costly - but NOT for the reasons that you see. Data migration is costly because companies DON'T set standards for where certain data resides. If all of your data was properly organized, then migration from one storage solution to another would be a straightforward process.

Even with your expensive IBM SVC software, you STILL require that customers create a global NAMESPACE i.e. organize their data directories. Well I say that if they organize their data using a global NAMESPACE, then they can manage their storage quite fine without you. What they NEED to do is to use FILE-SYSTEM VIRTUALIZATION - where directory structure (i.e. Namespace) is abstracted from the physical mountpoints (storage). This allow s for changing physical storage, while not affecting your data! Hey guess what, it can be accomplished for FREE - and NOT with some OSS, the software is BUILT IN to every *NIX distro!
