I think we agree actually

I don't think I started out defending this article, as I said at the beginning I don't think it has very much new to say.

The skills and attitudes people bring to a project are the most important thing rather than the tools.

The principles of project management are, as you say, easy to state, but difficult to make work in practice. If this wasn't the case then fewer projects would fail.

There are plenty of developers who think they know how to run a project but never seem to be prepared to take on the responsibility of project management however.
