Being realistic about what software can do

Well many people think that the software can model what the business actually does.

As a business is necessarily an informal system and a software system is necessarily a formal system the challenge I think we can dismiss this first sentence as being an unrealistic expectation.

If instead we ask "how could implementing a formal system help the business to do it's work more effectively" then I think we start to have a more realistic position on what software can and cannot deliver. I think we also have a firmer standpoint for dealing with user uncertainties here too.
