yes, but...
I agree...much can be automated and simplified and thats hppening allthe time under the noses of all IT people. My point is its not the responsibility of the "IT developer/coder" to worry about either the tools, the processes, the changing project requirements, or the disorganized clinets who constantly change spec docs and project requirements in projects. We still need a decent level of boundaries and respect for coders and people who build software....non oversimplification models and moving techies into business processes, or undermining the quality work sofwtare engineers do in the US by sending work offshore to lower quality programmers.

Coders and sofwtare develoeprs today have so many things piled up on their plate (new tools, new laguanges, new frameworks that they need LESS responibility, and need to focus on innovation! We need BETTER BUSINESS MANAGEMENT and IT MANAGEMENT to focus on project boundaries, client control, and implementation of better project scoping and more detail-oriented business people with more skill in understanding the upper tier of business process and the limitations of how those fit into what develoeprs build....not messing all this together. Its like the state of XHTML from HTML. We want to learn to separate out presentation from markup from structure. Not the other way around.
