The drivers can be seperated from the hardware but they need each other to function

I don't know exactly what you are considering to be patented here. Is it the software, or what the software does? The software is protected by copyright, and I can write a device driver that possibly does a better job than the original because the device driver can be separated.

Aren't I allowed to seperate the valid ones from the bogus ones?[

Of course you are, that's why these talkbacks are so interesting. We all have our own opinions.

You say if one software patent is bad, they are all bad. You sound bigoted that way.

Won't you grant me the same leeway you want yourself? My opinion is that all software patents are bad. Please don't imply I am bigot. I have my reasons that are valid to me just like you have your reasons that are valid to you.

Now how the hell would you know? That is not very nice. Definitely not what to say when you want someone to respect your opinion, which I do. I just don't agree with it.

By your definition, I have actually invented quite a few things having written all kinds of software on and off of the job for 20 years. For one thing, you need a lot of money to properly patent something (to also cover things like research), and for another thing, I think software patents are crap. Companies like Microsoft have lived on copyright over their software and lost over it (like when they have been caught with other companies binary code in their products).

Did you know you can improve on an invention? You can cross license with the original inventor.

Like one click and browser plugins, or obvious ways to use public domain tools and techniques. I'll pass.
