There are always ways to get better performance
... and these ways happen at the physical level without sacrificing the integrity of the logical level.

Actually there are approaches out there that are more efficient than the way most current DBMS products store and index data.

Yes SQL is not ideal as a DBMS language but how are you going to access all these ISAM files she is talking about? COBOL? Some proprietary query language? Really forget it, the whole thing isn't worth the trouble.
