Profoundly mistaken

The strength of the relational model is that it only represents data in one way: with named attributes in unique tuples in relations. (Columns, rows with a unique key and tables to use the conventional SQL terminology). This means that any item of data can be accessed by means of table name, primary key and column name.

The second important point is that this logical structure should be completely independent from how the data is stored physically. This is I think the key misunderstanding on the part of the author. All the data can still be expressed logically in the same way, that is a relational database. It may be that less recent data is less quickly accessible than more recent data but it is plain stupid to throw aware the advantages of the relational model and the ability to query the data in a standard way because of considerations merely to do with how the data might be physically stored.

The company the author works for is one to be ignored and its products to be avoided.
