Brother, you got that one right!!!
Programming takes a lot of work! Even for the smallest applications, you have to take into account security, data integrity and normalization, efficiency, and good design (so that it can be extended, and supported by folks other than the author).

Believe me, I can certainly tell the difference the code written by a classically trained programmer, and a hack.

It's funny that when somebody fixes your car and says that it will take a couple of weeks, the response is usually "sure". When a programmer says that it will take a couple of weeks to create a web site correctly, the response is "he's lying -- I can do it myself!!" This is especially true in the area of web development.

I can't tell you how many "seasoned web developers" that I've bumped into that can't tell you the difference between where PHP/ASP code and the JavaScript in a web page is executed. (hint: one runs on the sever, the other on the client browser).
