But why?
I've always taken it for granted that people would want their
database servers to be secure. Why would anyone want to use
Windows for a database server?

Seriously. This simply does not make sense. Do you really need
a graphical user interface--replete with a Web browser and
media player that you can't get rid of--on your database server?
Why??? The only way you need to interact with a database is
through SQL commands over a network. How can you even tell
what OS it's running on, and why should you care? So doesn't it
make sense to focus on stability and security rather than having
a GUI?
