This makes USB and Firewire suck!
I have been running two sets of eSATA RAID arrays using Seagate drives on one of my business systems running Mandriva Linux for around a year now. Having used both Firewire and USB2 before (and still), I can say that there is no comparison in terms of ease of use and performance. USB2 is particularly bad in both aspects. Firewire is better, but is much more expensive than eSATA. NCQ creates a significant increase in drive performance AND requires plenty of additional bandwidth for communication between the interface and the intelligent drive all of which is nicely accomodated by eSATA. eSATA will also be the perfect interface for the new generation of high speed solid state memory emerging to replace flash. This is a really great product that really deserves to go mainstream.
