You suggest the need for one word to define the phenomenon of compression waves sensed by human ears--commonly referred to as "sound"--and another, as yet unnamed, word to refer to the same phenomenon sensed by my dog. By analogy, then, is it correct to say that electromagnetic waves undetected by a human eye are incorrectly referenced when referred to as "light"? Ergo, the sun shines only on the Earth--and then, only on the humans?

I suggest that to which you are referring as "sound", the information interpreted by a brain--I disagree the brain is necessarily human --already has words assigned to it. In this case, that word could be "music". Alternatively, it could be "speech". Or, it could be the "snap" of a twig that alerts a tiger to your presence.

The definitions of "music", "speech", and "noise" are subjective and rely on perception. Whether or not "country and western" and "rap" are music cannot be measured objectively. But, this test of validity clearly fits your premise that requires a human ear--but please, not my ear. Therefore, I acknowledge that to which you refer exists, but it is not ?sound?.

The term "sound", as with "light", most properly refers to the physical phenomenon. It is an energy transfer and may be measured objectively with an electronic device. Sound is either there or it is not. You refer to the metaphorical usage of the term.

=====
I completely agree with your conclusion about speakers and perception.
