did the tree fall yes... did it make a sound NO... sound is a human perception (not a physical phenomina) that occurs in the brain resulting from compression and rarifcation of air and detected by nerves in your ear.. sure the compression and rarifcation occur but with out a brain to perceive it there is no "sound" or "noise"...

if the human brain cannot percieve the difference between two sounds there is no difference between the two sounds (remember sound occurs in the brain) the signal that gets sent to the brain is the same... what is the sense in making the compressions - rarifactions in the air more like they were originally if in your brain it is percieved the same. what is the sense in having an audiophile stereo if your speakers are crap.. weakes link..
