What's in a name?
SuSE stands for: "Gesellschaft fur Software und System Entwicklung"

Which translates to Company for Software and System Development. Eah, not too bad if you forget the 'G' and 'f', but I like the way it sounds.

YaST is "Yet another Setup Tool" Pretty much the same as Linux Setup Wizard.

RedHat, from what I remember...
It comes from the original founder of RedHat. Mark... something. In college, he owned a red hat that was passed down from his father (grandfather?) and he always wore it. He was the go-to-guy when you needed computer help, so he was well known as the redhat guy. Also, he named his projects RedHat to keep them seperate from others, and calling his distro RedHat Linux was only natural.
