Just to ask...
I realize there are differences in the directory structure between several of the distros, I think mainly between the RPM and other distros. Which one came first or whether or one way or the other has advantages I do not know or at least not aware. Or is there something more?

I am not sure I consider this a fork or at least that it is, in this situation, that bad. I see the forking and fragmentation in Unix was caused by companies each trying to control or capture the market for themselves and not working in concert. And strangely Linux comes along, a community effort, and fulfils what Unix was suppose to be. Not only that but it now provides an alternative to Windows as well.

Still if I am wrong or misunderstand, please explain the problem or the advantage of the other..... as it is not really a proprietary modification.
