I doubt MS
will ever play fair but; Assuming you are correct and the lower level version will not bring anything more than XP, why wouldn't one just stick with XP? I don't consider Mac a financially viable alternative. Mac is the Royals Royce of home computing, at least by the price tags. Also, why is it that a home user would want a FREE Linux distro? Do you really think they are going to do all the DD that will be needed to keep it up to date and find and install the apps they need? Home users want to plug it in and have it think for them. Plus they're all going to end up running as root and that's when the real fun is going to start. If I was going to lead a home user towards Linux it would be a packaged and supported distro...not a free one. Also, and I'm not bashing, but I remember the exact same thing being said about NT5. It was just NT4 SP7 and according to most it was not going to see a lot of sales, but it did...bigtime.
