It's pretty clear to me
I like Linux, I like KDE and X11.
I'm not a fan of Gnome, but others are, so they
can use it.
However Gnome programs can run under KDE also!
Usually incompatibilities in software are
MANUFACTURED. (DOS ain't done till Lotus won't
run).

Note: KDE also runs on Mac OSX, Solaris (and
maybe some tortured soul put it on windows also
through Cygwin - a lot of stuff runs through
Cygwin).

Personally I prefer Konqueror to Mozilla and
Firefox, and KWord is looking kind of sexy
against the growing beast of OpenOffice. (but I
still use OpenOffice for a lot of stuff).
