Red Hat the OSS contributor vs. the distribution vs. the corporation
Red Hat's individual contributions to OSS has been second to none. Red Hat's distribution is okay for the server or maybe a workstation, but is lousy for the desktop (probably the reason they have said Linux isn't ready for the desktop whereas SuSE says it is, compare the two and you'll see what I mean). Red Hat the corporation has made one lousy mistake after another.

The way I interpret that is that the programmers themselves are top notch but their bosses in the tall offices haven't a clue as to what direction they are going (since the programmers are leading the way here they go off in their own direction, but not necessarily in the direction the market needs them to go, so hence the great servers and workstations but lousy desktops), how to treat customers (potential and real) and how to treat investors (potential and real).
