- Can't speak for rock, but...

I figured it was time for another of my annual explorations to check out the current status of Linux. I just downloaded and installed SuSE Personal 9.1. Personal doesn't even offer gnome and when I try to get yast to install it from SuSE's FTP site it says it needs gnome2-suse. SuSE has a gnome2-suse rpm in their 9.0 directories on their ftp site, but not 9.1. Not sure if that matters but at this stage I'm not going to try it. I'll just play with kde for a while.
First impression, font management still stinks. In Firefox, for example, the menu and address bar text looks to be about 12 point based on what Windows displays. The text of the talkbacks looks to be about 16-18 point while the text I'm currently editing is 10 pt. What's up with that? I have a 19 inch monitor with the resolution set to 1152x864 so why are the desktop icons so huge? Granted these are all first impressions after less than a weekend playing with it but it still seems Linux (or at least SuSE/KDE) still has a little cleanup work to do. At least copy and paste seems to be very functional across applications now. - Posted by: PA-ITGuy Posted on: 10/11/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
