Alternatives are bad.
``It's easy to claim parity with Windows, but a lot harder to deliver. There is no evidence presented here of either,..''

I assume you have some tangible technical information to provide that clarifies which system is better and in what aspects. Can you provide it?

``just a cutesy claim that MacOS X (the awe-inspiring 2% market share entry) is somehow more advanced than Windows and is now the target! LOL!!!''

Do you claim that 2% market share implies technical inferiority? Can you show then us how did you reach this 'conclusion' ?

``Linux will go nowhere on the desktop without finding some marketing Moses to lead them out of the desert. They have been wandering for about 10 years now, so they would have about 30 years to go!''

It is becoming more evident that MS will be needing a Moses to take them out of their increasingly unwieldy situation. They can not even make a PATCH right even though it takes them for ever and when they do it creates more trouble than without it. Let alone the simple fact that they are announcing their next 'best' PC os to be released after 2-3 years (which in MS speak means 4-5 and 7-8 until they get it right...)

Even a small pool of students with miniscule resources can produce a modern OS in 1-2 years time.

Regardless of MS's screw ups, the GUI part on Linux/UNIX has been improving steadily. And at the moment it is very stable, robust and capable to deliver high quality results. How did you miss that?
