Microsoft makes the standards
It would be nice to think that the best OS would be the one everyone uses. The ideal that Linux is going to do to Microsoft what Microsoft did to Apple is nice but I think that hope is misplaced.

I have grown up around computers all my life but I haven't got serious about it till recently. What I know wouldn't even be worth mentioning and me along with the people that use computers as a way to play card games. Most people will just do what they are told and we are told Windows is the standard-the best.

Until schools teach with Linux or Apple, Windows will be the standard because the next generation of computer users will have grown up on Windows.

As for me I would love to see something better than XP and I don't want to wait till 2008. As a kid I was under the ideal that a new OS came out every two or three years. I may have to use Windows XP till I graudate college. But I don't intend to use Windows for the rest of my life.

Good luck Linux and Apple. My advice to Bill Gates would to be original!
