I don't like quoting, because I usually do it wrong, but I thought there were two points...

Old Points -

Point 1: "I would hope your Q&A people atleast test your patches against your own suite of products..."

My response was that it is not possible to test every single possible option. There is no way to do it. We don't do it and I don't know of anyone else who does or can with complex systems.

Point 2: "i think that just MIGHT be a good thing to spend that $50 BILLION they had int eh bank on.. making a better product..."

They are paying their developers and testers to make SP2. I am not saying their developers deserve what they get paid or that they have enough of them (maybe they should hire more) but they certainlly spent money on making a better product. There is no denying, for people who can correctly administer their own networks, that SP2 did make XP better in more ways then it made it worse.

New Points -

#1
I agree that they did release stuff they new would break other things. But on the other hand they told everyone what those were and they documented it. We released a build and said that it would freak out if you were using a certain version of crystal but we knew only one or two clients were using it so we did it anyways. We let them know ahead of time and didn't force them to take on the new build immediately, pretty much the same steps MS took. Other then MS is on a much bigger scale, I see no problems with what they did. Essentially I don't think it is fully their responsibility to test every other software package. They didn't call us to see if our stuff works (even though we are a partner) and I didn't expect them to. It's our software... we'll get SP2 test it and then tell our clients what to do.

#2
I have no critical functions, nor non-critical functions, that no longer work after our SP2 migration so I don't know what problems you are referring to.

#3
I agree. They should have had two download types. Just fixes, or both. Since they only have one DL, they should have options for disabling all of the new upgrades (not fixes). You can disable the security center stuff after it is installed but you should be prompted, during the install, for all other little things they add in.
