honesty is not encouraged by the administration
There's no evidence (at least not in the article) that points to them outsourcing the flagship product (as you say).

However, it is concerning that there is not more transparency. The lack of transparency is not necessarily proof they are hiding something, but it is troubling.

I think most companies that outsource do not want to shed light on that fact. It is not only a main campaign issue this year but outsourcing the jobs of the people you expect to purchase your products is unethical.

Now the ethics of the matter do enter a certain gray area with regards to a company's competition with other companies that outsource -- how can you compete with other companies unless you TOO outsource. No matter how loyal a company is to its employees, it has to face this unfortunate fact of life if it is to survive.

That basically leaves it up to the government to level the playing field. George Bush seems to like outsourcing jobs a lot because he thinks the market will adjust itself eventually. When "eventually" is and how much damage is caused in the interim seem to be non-issues for George with his "trust me, wait-and-see" approach which is unlikely to bear any fruit at all even if he is elected to another 4 years.

The Democrats seem to have a very simple approach to this dilemma. Give tax breaks only to U.S. companies that do not outsource jobs overseas. How far reaching this solution really is remains to be seen. In my opinion (especially with companies like Microsoft that have basically made an artform of exploiting loopholes), you'd have to ensure that the worker that actually did the work was a U.S. citizen. That way you can get around the whole "we're not outsourcing overseas, THEY are" thing that we're seeing with Microsoft right now.

We need a U.S. government that rewards companies that keep jobs here in America. Also, we need a U.S. government that wisely invests tax revenue to build a stronger America for everyone. Yes we need to compete internationally, but we also need a strong government that will stand with the nation's workforce in negotiating fair trade with the world -- not one that idly stands by watching everyone's livelihood disintegrate and then get on T.V. to tell another great lie to the people...at least the ones that can afford a T.V...
