RE: Microsoft pulls Vista SP1 update
How do you know when to back up your hard drive when Microsoft does so called "automatic updates" without your advance authorization or knowledge (except for the small print in the initial acceptance disclaimer which allows you to install Vista, which doesn't apply if the computer you purchased already had Vista installed.

Microsoft is trying to lull customers into allowing THEM to control the customer's computer by installing these "automatic update" features, regardless of the damage done to the users system and settings.

Another example is the program they silently install to "verify" the legitimacy of the Microsoft software installed on the customer's computer (which was purchased, oftentimes, from a third party, preinstalled on the computer), and then uses that secretly installed "verification" software to deny updates necessary to keep the computer secure.

Customers who purchase computers with preinstalled Microsoft software should NOT attach any value to that software, because Microsoft, at it's whim, can declare the software installation on that computer "unauthorized" and deny security updates without any appeal, and FORCE the user to PURCHASE a so-called "legitimate" version of the same software directly from Microsoft.

There is NO way for users to challenge Microsoft or to demand a appeal or fair hearing.

Buyer Beware: Do not buy any computer with preinstalled Microsoft products, or you might find yourself unable to install Service Pack updates.

Word to the Wise: Linux.
