Well, if you're not a developer of FOSS
or if you don't mind paying money for an OSS, not too many compelling reasons. There are issues with all OSes, (the flood of forums with troubleshooting woes and tips would seem to speak to that truth), and individuals have to weigh the pros and cons of using one over the other. For most consumers though, it's a matter of advertisement, seeing something daily at work, and/or what family and friends are using for easiest sharing/communication. The internet is fast changing the sharing/communication part. Now, it may be the economy that changes the 'paying' for an OS part. If that occurred, MS and Sun could see a huge drop in future procurement, as well as Apple's adoption rate, as these commercial entities would find it hard to compete with grass root organizations that aren't using the same business model even if they are in the same market.

Right now, I'm not sure if there's compelling like a driving need to move to Linux. It's a solid server platform, but with so many distros with varying issues with proprietary and commercial software and trying to push their open and nonproprietary formats into adoption or fudging use of the former, it's a not ready for prime time for Linux as a whole, IMO. It's a cool dual boot though, and probably good for keeping of the crackers and feds radar.
