Get a clue?
You developed your own applications, which is good, but in such a way to lock you into one out dated OS, which is bad, and you blame Microsoft? Let's find out if you have a clue.

1) "UAC will cause problems in the enterprise environment." Interesting, I have had no problems with UAC, but if I did, I would just shut it off. You do realize that UAC can be disabled?

2) "Everything runs slower on Vista vs. XP." Once again, interesting that I haven't seen that. Properly configured, Vista runs very fast. I haven't tried to install it on older hardware, but have had no complaints from my users running Vista on new systems. Even on relatively low end hardware, Vista is fast and responsive. I only see it drag when running on less than 1 GB RAM.

3) "It's amazing to have a system with 4 GB RAM and none of it free running x64 Vista." Vista manages memory differently than XP, basically using physical memory as a cache to improve performance. Vista will always show all of your RAM as used, because it is being used, all of the time. You paid for all of that RAM, isn't it nice to know that it is being used? By comparison, XP was quite primitive in its memory management, letting the memory idle until you manually loaded it up with something. By the way, I have found that Vista runs very well with 2 GB.

XP SP3 may show an improvement in performance, but considering that SP3 is mostly just a rollup I don't expect to see much difference on currently updated systems. It will help with new installs, as it now takes considerable time to install all of the patches since SP2. At this point, though, I don't plan on doing many more XP installs, as we are moving to Vista on most new systems, and Linux on others. I also know of many other enterprise operations that are doing the same. By now, we have several months of testing under our belts, and are confident that Vista can carry the load for most of our users.

When XP came out a few years ago, we had to learn new skills to configure and support it effectively. By now, XP is easy to support because we have had several years to learn its intricacies. For those of us who spent the last year learning Vista, we are now prepared to handle it as well. For those like you who spent the last year complaining that you have to learn something new, Vista will be a headache.

Perhaps it is time for you to get a clue, and realize that the very nature of our work is constant change. You can either keep up, or be left behind.
