Get a clue...
A large enterprise will spend so much on ERP that it makes their PC budget look like a minor blip, not the other way around.

We have a lot of home-grown applications. Re-writing them to cope with Vista is cost prohibitive. If Microsoft wants us to use Vista, they can either pay for us to make the change or make the move seamless to us.

UAC will cause problems in the enterprise environment. Cisco's VPN client for Vista is still beta and blows up on a regular basis. Many applications don't understand UAC and have difficulty installing. Applications that use the MMC will pop UAC every time they are launched and this will drive help-desk calls.

Everything runs slower on Vista vs. XP. When you get hardware beefy enough to run Vista Enterprise and provide a decent user experience, you can load XP on the same platform and it runs soooo much faster and is so much more responsive. It's amazing to have a system with 4 GB of RAM and have none of it free running x64 Vista. Anything I want to use that isn't cached is now a 2 stage process as I have to flush something out of cache and load what I want. The enterprise environment can run pretty much anything they want on XP Pro and only consume about 512MB of RAM.

Bring in XP SP3 and XP will receive a 10% performance improvement. Vista SP1 will only offer a 2% improvement to an OS that is already a pig. XP will further show a benefit over Vista. I don't see a need to move until Microsoft can come up with something better.

Our systems supplier doesn't have a single enterprise customer that is moving to Vista. Few are even wasting the time to look really hard at it until SP1.
