I read the article...
...and all I can say is that there are many factors that affect performance. On my personal Vista system (C2D 2.7 GHz, 2 GB DDR2-800, X1950 Pro, Vista Home Premium) I have no performance issues, and Vista runs very fast, even with all of the fancy stuff turned on. One poster complained that when he hit CTRL-ALT-DEL it would take over 10 seconds for the task list to come up. On my system, it appears almost instantly, even with multiple apps running. Word and Excel load in about 2 seconds. What is the difference? I expect that it is that I have a lot of experience tuning computers.

I have seen slow Vista systems, but in every case I have been able to cure the performance lags by cleaning the crapware, cleaning the startup, getting rid of the security suites (that's the biggie), and bumping RAM up to 2 GB or more. I did this for XP for years, and 98 before that. Even ME could be made to run pretty well with the same technique. Run any OS lean and mean and it runs much better.
