Windows is well liked?
Choices? What choices? Linux is not a good alternative for a desktop replacement. I'll be the first one to tell you it's not.

Mac OSX is but.. no support for apps like Windows has (which comes from the days of it being a monopoly. Things don't just change over night) Apple is also out of reach for the majority of Windows clients. Most don't want to pay the cost of an Apple because most don't need or want the power Apple has to offer.

My next computer will be an Apple, but I'll never get rid of my dependency on Windows for the simple reason that i love my PC Games, and Windows is mostly what I develop in. (Used to develop in the AIX environment).
