Out of the box broke vs at least you can fix it
Windows gives you two things you don't get anywhere else:

1. You pay for the box. For your outrageous price, you get bugs, glitches and unintelligible error messages, or it simply won't work. (F'r'example, the magnificient Windows Media Player 11 will display a video on my 1080p HiDef, but only until I click it to fullscreen, when it goes black.)

2. Which is the other "exclusive benefit" you get with Windows: YOU CAN'T FIX IT! There's no repair function, even on the install disks; if you get an error message, you probably won't find an intelligible translation; and if you do find an alleged "fix" or "workaround" in the Microsoft Rumor Base, it probably won't work.

I'd go on, but I'm still trying to figure out why - out of clear blue sky - Windows has decided it will no longer recognize ATI's latest top-of-the-line tuner card. I did solve the Media Player 11 problem, though - I USE SOMEBODY ELSE'S SOFTWARE!
