You're kidding, right?
"50 years ago school was really horrible for the majority of the population." WTF??

50 years ago, the educational system did not let anyone advance to the next grade if they could not spell. Note the spelling of many of the posters on this board, many educated in the last 10-20 years in public schools.

50 years ago the dropout rate for students was lower and students who graduated actually could function at or slightly below grade level. Try finding your average high school graduate today and ask him or her to do a simple algebraic calculation. Heck, just ask him or her to do a simple long addition problem without a calculator!!

50 years ago schools offered music, art, band, chorus, etc. as a standard part of the educational experience. Try to find one school in your area that offers all of this to each and every student and not just in a magnet school setting.

50 years ago supplies were purchased and distributed by the School District and teachers did not have to do without to make sure their students had pencils and paper.

50 years ago students enjoyed field trips sponsored by the school district that did not cost parents a single dime, just a signature on a permission slip.

50 years ago children were not afraid to wear whatever color clothing they wanted and did not have to fear for their lives just walking to school.

I could go on for pages but it would do no good. "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." To which I add "those who would rewrite the past, never learned anything in the first place."
