If your opinions is that these gadgets don't offer anything usefull to society, then why are you spending your time on your computer writing up this kind of regressive opinion. Claiming that computers and TV haven't impacted the way children in our society learn compared to the children one or two generations ago?

50 years ago school was really horrible for the majority of the population. Our society has done a huge progress since then, with school being better for a larger part of the population. Though still there are huge advances to be made in my opinion.

In my opinion, school still sucks because we have not yet utilized the technologies that are available to us in the society. School books are still dating from back to the time before Internet was invented and sometimes, the school books and school curriculums and teaching techniques date even back to before there was color TV, sometimes even older than the telephone.

I think that we definately need to setup at least some test schools where parents can voluntarilly put their children in more technologically concious school systems. The way to embrace technology? I think it can be as simple as just using the technology that is available, ways of learning, software, preferences, strategies will come in to place I believe all by itself. The priority should just be to embrace technology full throttle, and thus there is the OLPC initiative, and thanks for it.
