Sticking with PCs...
Just sticking with software for PCs (rather than all the other devices we use):

Over the last few months, I've been very impressed at the quality and innovation in Linux distributions:

Several 'LiveCDs' have been able to boot my PC, "discover" the hardware and provide a fully working PC with a modern office suite, modern browser and multi-media - all without upsetting my Windows installation.

As well as the basics, many of these distributions have innovations where people are experimenting with new ideas, new uses for computers, or just ways of providing wider access.

It's a world away from the queues waiting for the release of Vista!
