3. As for the home grown/in-house code for custom applications, I am sure that a lot of it is built using OSS. Who would use Visual Studio for a MySQL Database application?

Oh, quite a bit. However, the thing to understand is that the great bulk is written to order for whatever environment. Think of all that MS Visual Basic programming going on (in Europe as elsewhere) and recognize that it's the kind of stuff that Jeremy is talking about.

I really don't think Don and Anton get that point.
