Software is not just for computers
Think about it - the number one cell phone OS is Symbian, based on OS. How many millions of Nokia and other phones out there run that OS? Think about all the Point of Sale devices, the majority of which run an embedded linux variant. Consumer devices that also run embedded Linux. What runs your local utilities? What runs your airport systems? What runs for your ground transporation such as trains? The list goes on and on.

No one is talking solely about software for computers. I think the poster who said that some folks here only think about computers as running aoftware have blinders on.

And I think it is a good thing that so many uses for Linux/FLOSS have been found and I hope that it continues. The nature of FLOSS allows people to dream up various means and methods for using it to simplify life, improve its quality, etc.

I am not saying that there is no place for proprietary software - there obviously is and always will be. But the vast majority of software running out there is certainly not proprietary. Just think of the number of cell phones and you will realize the truth of his assertions.
