Your experience mirrors mine, hoiatl.

We, too, have had to Fight the FUD when it comes to mentioning UNIX/Linux.

We even see it in the actions of some technical representatives for some of our clients; people who should know better. Whenever something goes wrong, the first finger is pointed at some poor little Linux server in the infrastructure doing its job on hardware deemed insufficient for running Windows. Almost without exception, the problem is found in something like a checkbox that has been cleared in some drilled down dialog box in Windows running on that big, expensive hardware.

It is improving, though, especially when some client CFO finishes writing his checks at the end of the yearly IT purchasing cycle and notices how much he has saved over the previous year as a result of all these little Linux descriptions on the invoices.
