Sopho-more indeed
``A group of people, say from a number of different companies bring their laptops to a meeting. The meeting leader creates an invitation to collaborate over an ad hoc network - no protocols to set up, not settings to tweak - the other participants accept the invitation, enter the password just given them, and they are connected and up and running. When the meeting is over, they disconnect - no changing back to company protocols, changing IP addresses - the ad hoc network disappears.''

This has ALWAYS been the case with 802.11 ad hoc networks (in the last 5 years). Why do you think this is sonething new and ONLY available in Vista? It is Vista which is LATE as usual.

So WHO would coordinate the collaboration? In a peer to peer setting N sites need to setup N X (N-1) point-to-point connections and then start collaborating. Who owns a file or an object and who can modify it without creating an inconsistent state of the data?

BTW sophomore comes from "sophos" (wise) and "moros" (the root of moron) and it is given to people who just obtained a little piece of knowledge but who feel that they posses it all (hence the 2nd year undergrads).

Indeed a sophomore....
