It is already starting to happen
I bought a Samsung laser printer a few months ago and it had an RPM for "RPM compatible Linux distributions including Red Hat and SuSE".

On inspection it turned out that almost the entire Samsung laser printer range now supplies RPM drivers.

Also, a lot of kit requires no drivers to be supplied with Linux. I had a external hard drive that came supplied with a driver for Windows but which worked on SuSE just by plugging the drive in. The same was true of a new 3D video card - no drivers needed. Nor did my Fuji finepix camera need a driver.

Things are improving.
