I'm sorry but 512 MB is a good amount of RAM. Esp coupled with a 3500+ !!! Vista is too darn bloated. I shouldn't need to upgrade my RAM just to have Vista run at a P1 level.

For what it's worth, system requirements in the RAM department have pretty much doubled with EACH and EVERY release. Windows 95 needed at least 32 MB but ran better with 64 MB. 98 wanted at least 64 MB to run happy - but was better with 128 MB. ME wanted 128 MB, 256 to make it run better (as if that was even possible!). 2000 was about same as ME, only a heck of a lot better at managing memory. XP will run in 256 MB but 512 MB is really needed to make it work well.

See the pattern here? 512 MB will make Vista work decent, even though you've probably gotta shut off a lot of the eye candy. 1 GB is probably the optimum level of memory for it.

At least RAM is still mostly dirt cheap these days. Picked up a pair of 512 MB sticks of PC3200 a couple of weeks ago for $29 bucks a stick at a computer show. I've seen the same RAM going for about $35 a piece on line.
