Ands that is Huge
This is in fact the very point I have tried to make on previous occasions. It dosnt matter how hard or high the Linux zealots jump up and down, or the OSX freaks scream, XP is an OS that is first, and massively stable. I know this because I use and seriously abuse the XP OS on both a laptop and desktop with some seriously questionable acts, and as such I have only managed to blue screen the laptop while doing some bizarre hotlink attempts between documents on an open wireless network. As I didn?t even really know what I was getting into the effort was stupid to begin with. I?ve never heard of an XP OS blue screening besides that.
Anyone who runs an XP box and reads zdnet posts has had to endure an ongoing endless din of almost mindless series of rantings about the superior security offered by OSX and Linux, but I don?t know about others but almost 4 years of some pretty rough use on the net has caused me no security issue of any kind, at least non that I didn?t clear out on a routine scan without any issue or downtime. Any competent XP user will tell you its just a matter of securing the OS and using at least a minimum of common sense.
I?ve heard the screaming from the XP opponents that XP does have holes that allow stupid users to compromise the OS, and while that?s true, lets be honest, a Ferrari has issues that will compromise the safety of a stupid driver. The nice thing is even the stupid XP user can solve that with minimal research for free.
About 5 months ago I decided to go with free AVG antivirus and Zone Alarm firewall, along with the now updated Windows Defender as opposed to the overly top heavy, and more costly Norton Systemworks Preimer, and I haven?t had a glitch yet.
The final analysis is that XP is not only versatile, easy and intuitive to use, its also highly compatible and despite the very worst ludicrous complaints about poor stability (clearly B.S.) and lousy security, (true against massive stupidity prevention only) the XP OS has been an incredible update over the highly popular Win 98.
Anything new in Vista is there for one purpose, not for some weird scheme of making cash in some new manor, but to make cash in the good old fashion manor. The only way Vista is going to sell reasonably well is if its value for bucks, and given the cost of a new OS, and given the raw performance that XP offers to the average consumer Vista has got a rather large hill to climb.
