- Mr. Pinder try harder next time....

>Especially if you're not familiar with OS X. Bit like driving a car in UK or USA, if you learnt in one the other is more difficult.<
Aren?t Macs supposed to be easier to use, more intuitive blah blah blah? Yeah this is what I heard from so many Mac fanatics. Well in reality for a newbie it?s a pain. I agree after countless hours playing around in it things will happen but this isn?t how the OS is portrayed or shall I say hyped. While it does work it seems like a toy compared to Windows XP.
>Obviously they are very familiar with the Mac then (not). And the chooser doesn't feature in OS X at all.<
I never said the chooser was part of OS X. I am well aware that Apple finally came to its senses and included a ?printers and faxes? icon in the system preferences. I was speaking in general terms however my sentence construction could?ve been better.
>Of course you do!<
Yeah I did.
>Dual core centrinos? What are they then?<
Intel dual core chips with Centrino technology. Anyway your remark doesn?t make what I said any less truthful. Nice try.
>You really haven't used OS X have you? Remember logging on to Win98 PC by hitting esc to bypass the password?<
Windows 98 was never really meant to be a business os, that?s what Windows NT was for. Anyway with the right software (e.g Novell Zen Works) Windows 98 could?ve been made to be a lot more secure. However even with its security issues it probably will, to this day, run circles around OS X in terms of speed and compatibility.
>if you want a games machine buy a games machine Xbox, Playststion etc. After all any OS is going to get in the way of your faster hardware.<
Ah here we go, the typical Mac user answer to the games problem. It?s getting old, you Mac addicts need to find a new line. My machine will probably blow away any XBOX or Playstation in raw graphic performance alone. The Processor performance is way faster than any console except maybe the xbox 360. As for the OS getting in the way of your faster hardware ? That?s got to be the most ludicrous comment I?ve ever heard from an Apple fanboy. It?s so devoid of logic I?m gonna leave it alone. Anyway the bottom line is OS X sucks for games period and to many people that IS a big deal.
>There you go again. You have no experience of OS X. How can you make these sweeping statements from such a position?<
I?ve used and configured OS X enough to make such sweeping statements sir. And I?m still not impressed.
>Really? My PC at work sits behind a firewall (MS ISA in case you're wondering) and I run a sweep for spyware every week and every week I find something.<
Spyware is a very general term. I specifically mentioned Viruses and malware. Malware is more destructive and digs itself deeper into the system than your typical adaware (such as tracking cookies, pop-up generators, hijackers etc). I?ve never had Malware, however I?ve had tracking cookies and those were cookies which I chose to let in since blocking all can be inconvenient. And FYI a firewall does little to curtail malware or adware. You need anti-spyware/malware software to battle them. And the biggest obstacle to their propagation is being a careful and responsible web user.
>Next you'll be telling us it's never blue screened or needed a reboot!<
My PC has never blue screened however I?ve had to re-boot it after installing updates or hardware which is normal under windows. The blue-screen of death only occurs on PC that have faulty hardware (usually memory or a hard drive), the wrong driver installed (pretty rare) or corrupted files. Windows XP doesn?t cause this in itself. An IT professional like yourself should know this. Or are you just posing?
>Yeah, just take care never to connect it to the Internet.<
There?s probably more Windows XP boxes connected to the Internet than all the Macs Apple has ever built. Hmmm I don?t see the sky falling, do you? Nice try but I can see right through the FUD.
>Apart from the blatant sexism in that remark I wonder how you were able to tell whether the Mac would be any use for them. Did you suddenly gain a vast exerience of using Macs which you have managed to hide from the rest of us?<
Ok after re-reading my remark I can see where someone might could offended. Truth is I really didn?t mean it that way. Anyway out of all the persons who?ve asked me about Macs very few were men. And that?s the truth. In my experience women seem to more interested in them. But that?s just what I?ve seen, statistically I could be wrong.
Anyway I have more experience with Macs than you think and I?ll leave it at that.
>Oh FYI, I work in IT support - supporting approximately 3500 PC users. At home I don't work in IT support I have two Macs running OS X.< - Posted by: darreno1 Posted on: 01/20/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
