Is it really that ludicrous?
A lot of folks buy Apple hardware for the looks, period and they DO (and are willing to) pay a premium for it. These are of course the less tech savy but they do. If Apple built regular PC-looking boxes with no really distinguising designs or colors their sales would take a hit. How big a hit, I don't know, but I do know it will be noticeable.

An Apple box running windows will sell but I agree the price has to be right. Did you read by whole post? I basically said ultra-reliable and cheap hardware with good looks - that would be the draw and they already have name recognition. For example go priceout a high-end Dell desktop and see what it comes out to. Probably hundreds more than a PC you can build yourself. And you know what? People still buy them because it's a DELL.
Why should Apple be any different?
