MS is in very good shape, have been for a long time and will be for a long time to come. Apple isn't going to die soon either but they aren't going to take a big bite out of the PC market either(probably never). They do have the IPOD (thank god) and some new imacs, both of which aren't anything spectacular. Intel's and AMD's dual-core PCs and (upcoming notebooks) pretty much outdo anything Apple has right now and probably will have unless of course Apple shares the same Intel chips at the same. So there really isn't a compelling reason to switch like in the past when Apple was a leader in processor and graphics performance. And as far as the Ipod goes, it's overhyped and isn't as consumer friendly as people think. It's great success is still a mystery to me. Even the Itunes software with its overly simplistic interface (and privacy problems) is something to laugh at.
And for your info, there are ways to deal with the Viruses and malware and security issues that plague windows. Yeah there's actually a huge market built around Internet security and anti-virus software. So the FUD really doesn't mean much anymore. And it's certainly not enough to push people away from PCs as Apple's market share clearly demonstrates.
This is stretch but if Apple scraps OSX and run Windows they actually might grab a bigger slice of the computer market, lol. Or they can run Windows along side OSX. Then all they'll have to do to maintain market share is to differentiate themselves by manufacturing ultra-reliable(but relatively cheap)hardware that looks good.
