Forgive me for interjecting into this conversation, but I'll go ahead and answer IT Scion. No, Linux is not on par with Windows HW support. In fact, it is FAR more superior.

I have approximatley 9 machines in my home lab environment. There's about 4 groups of similarly hardwared setups. In EVERY case, on Windows, after installing, I have to hunt down manufacturer drivers because there's that golden yellow question mark in device manager because Windows couldn't recognize the device.

How strange it is that in Linux, no matter how new or old (legacy) the device may be, Linux ALWAYS ALWAYS recognizes the device. In fact, when you go into the hardware manager in Linux, there's far more configurable options for the device than there ever were in Windows, even after you've located the manufactuer's actual drivers.

So no, again, Linux is DEFINITELY not on par with Winblows.
