After this, I give up
My original point is the chosen software determines the OS. Not everyone can migrate to linux. Engineering firms will not be able to. Most of them are running AutoCAD.

I agree, that right now, not everyone can migrate to Linux. And even if they could, I don't believe there's a reason they should unless they want to. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a Linux vs. Windows thing, which is the impression I get from you. To me, it actually sounds like you're defensive over Windows.

Oh and your program, sells no where near the copies of AutoCAD. Think about it. How many biotech labs are there vs all the manufacturing plants and engineering firms. Also the price will tell you it is lower in numbers.

True, but if you compare AutoCAD numbers to office suite numbers, which is what the post you replied to discussed, I'll bet the difference is even greater, so Insight makes at least as much sense to compare to AutoCAD as AutoCAD does to office suites.

And the post you replied to didn't say, "switch over right now." In fact, it specifically said don't switch over right now - it said start with Office, just Office, and build from there. If people did that, it's very possible that a few years down the line there would be all that support for Linux, and the engineers could switch, if they wanted to. Would that be so bad?

So choose a program that works for you. Then you have to choose the OS that it runs on. I happen to go with Windows, because it runs the programs I choose. If the programs were available for linux, I still would use Windows because it is faster on identicle hardware.

Since, as you pointed out, AutoCAD is not available for Linux, how do you know the Windows version would run faster? Where are you getting this information? Microsoft? Xwindows, because of the way it handles calls vs. Windows' API, is technically a tad slower passing information to the GUI, but I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference with modern hardware. That process does make it more robust, and better suited to network applications as well.

And now that Nvidia is fully supporting Linux with their drivers, Linux graphics performance with Nvidia cards is considered equal to or better than a comparable Windows system - one of the reasons Titanic, Star Wars Ep. II and III, Lord of the Rings, and more big-budget movies relied on Linux workstations for their 3D graphics. And the underlying calculations actually run faster on Linux than Windows, for a variety of reasons. Making unsubstantiated claims about the performance really makes me wonder about your objectivity.
