In the end, it's the current users and supporters of the platform that must bend. They must make the driver even though there are no users for it and they do not use it themselves, so that the ones who do have something to use when they do adopt. If they simply wait for people to adopt Linux even though it does not meet their needs, they'll be in for a really long wait. Fortunately for the Linux community they do have some rich benefactors to help out, but they must convince those benefactors where the most attention is needed.

I doubt the average Linux geek has the resources to afford one of those expensive large plotters so he can sit and write the drivers needed to make the plotter work. Gotta have the hardware for at least testing purposes...
