It doesn't matter what specific OS is used, the gains are comfort with computers and the more general grasp of technology. In schools it's mostly the web browser and search engine anyway. If a kid gets all the way through high school using Open Office and can't transition to MS Word, there's something much more wrong than the OS or office suite choice in the schools. IMNSHO, technology has been focused on too much at the expense of the basics, particularly in elementary and middle schools.
