Unix cheap?
"Having used Unix for a number of years I still think that the main reasons for its success are its portability and its cheapness, rather than any inherent qualities of the operating system itself."

Portability, YES, cheap? Not until OSS, Linux, etc. SCO, AIX, HP/UX, etc. were VERY expense OS's during their run. After the into of OSS, Linux, etc. the vendors MAY have lowered prices, but by then, I wasn't using those flavors anymore (OS/X all the way!).
