Microsoft's fundamental problem
I've come to the conclusion that Microsoft cannot maintain its software base. It's simply gotten too big, and too complicated.

Even with all the resources in the world, MS cannot test new software for compatibility with everything they've done in the past. They are *stuck*. They couldn't even add tabbed browsing to IE6. The programming would have been trivial, but then IE wouldn't have the same look&feel as all the other MS products.

Imagine trying to do something really new in such an atomosphere. I don't expect we'll see any innovation comming out of MS.
